Discriminant:

{b}^(2) - 4ac \\ = {8}^(2) - 4( - 2)( - 8) \\ = 64 - 64 = 0
If the discriminant = 0, it is double real roots.
If the discriminant > 0, it is real roots.
If the discriminant < 0, there are no real roots.
