Answer:

  • His speed is 3 miles per hour.
  • He can cover three more miles in 4 hours than he can in 3 hours.

Explanation:

We know that speed is defined as the ratio of distance over time.

i.e.

Speed=(distance)/(Time)

It is given that:

The distance covered by Ross is 6 miles and the time taken by him is: 2 hours.

This means that his speed is:

Speed=(6\ miles)/(2\ hours)\\\\i.e.\\\\Speed=2\ miles\ per\ hour

Also,

Distance=Speed* time

Hence, distance covered by him in 4 hours at the same speed is:

Distance=3* 4\\\\i.e.\\\\Distance=12\ miles

and the distance traveled by him in 3 hours is:

Distance=3* 3\\\\i.e.\\\\Distance=9\ miles

Hence, the extra miles he covers in 1 hour is:

12-9=3\ miles
