Prince Henry known as the Navigator during the age of discovery was intrested in dicovering where the gold caravans originated from that supplied gold to Northern African muslim states. His expeditions along the western coast of Africa allowed Portugal to set up colinies in western Africa that could resupply further expeditions. These colonies also brought in gold and slaves which made Portugal rich.
