An arrow is shot an angle of 13 degrees to the horizontal with an initial speed of 100. Km/hr. Find the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity.

It’s important to remember key trigonometry concepts when talking about kinematics.

In this example, it’s important to know that sin represents the relationship between the opposite side (in this case y) and hypotenuse (100) and that cosine represents the adjacent side (in this case x) and hypotenuse.

For sin, the opposite divided by the hypotenuse equals the sin of the given angle. Similar for cos, but adjacent.

We can use this to algebraically isolate the side we are looking for, and allow ourselves an easy calculator solution.
Both of my answers are rounded.

X-component = 97.437 m/s
Y-component = 22.495 m/s
