To find x-intercepts, set y to zero and solve for x.

For the first equation, the x-intercept can be found as ...

  • 0 = 2x +6
  • x = -6/2 = -3

For the second equation, the x-intercept can be found as ...

  • 0 = -2x -4
  • x = 4/(-2) = -2

With the x- and y-intercepts of each equation, plotting the line is pretty simple. Find those points and draw a line through them. Read the solution from the graph where the lines intersect, at (-2.5, 1).
