9(8 - x) = 3x Distribute/multiply 9 into (8 - x)

72 - 9x = 3x Add 9x on both sides

72 = 12x Divide 12 on both sides

6 = x

Your answer is A

[proof]

9(8 - x) = 3x

9(8 - 6) = 3(6)

9(2) = 18

18 = 18

Answer:

x = 6 or (A) is your answer

Explanation:

Remember to follow PEMDAS. Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other.

First, distribute 9 to all terms within the parenthesis:

9(8 - x) = 9(8) - 9(x) = 72 - 9x

72 - 9x = 3x

Isolate the x. Add 9x to both sides

72 - 9x (+9x) = 3x (+9x)

72 = 3x + 9x

72 = 12x

Isolate the x. Divide 12 from both sides

(72)/12 = (12x)/12

x = 72/12

x = 6

x = 6 or (A) is your answer
