The pros are numerous, it's a fulfilling career, it feels great to help people and make a difference in peoples lives and the community. You get to at least try to make it a little safer place for your family.

The biggest con is the danger that goes with the job. There are lots of dangers and you have to be 100% committed to the job to be able to do the job to the best of your abilities while staying on your toes so to say so that you and everyone else can go home after the shift is done. You also get lied to all the time. You eventually develop the ability to know when someone is lying to you , some are better at detecting lies than others.

There are many other pros and cons but that's what comes to mind now.
