A soccer ball is kicked from the ground in an arc defined by the function h(x)= -2x^2 + 8x. At what point does the ball hit the ground?

Explanation:

If you have a graphing calculator then you graph the function and find the point where it touches the x axis after x= 0 if you dont then you have to factor the function :

=2x^2-8x

= (2x) (x-4)

then set each grouping to zero

2x=0

x-4=0

solve for x

x=0

x=0+4

so the graph crosses the x axis at (0,0) and (4,0)
