I've been trying to solve this for a while, but I don't understand. I'd really appreciate some help with it.

2. The formula M = log I/S determines the magnitude of an earthquake, where I is the intensity of the earthquake and S is the intensity of a “standard earthquake.” How many times stronger is an earthquake with a magnitude of 8 than an earthquake with a magnitude of 6? Show your work.

it should be

log_(6)(8)
which is 1.16.....

Answer: 100

Step-by-step explanation:

formula: log (
(Intensity)/(Standard)) = Magnitude

log (
(Intensity)/(Standard)) = 8 log (
(Intensity)/(Standard)) = 6

(Intensity)/(Standard) = 10⁸
(Intensity)/(Standard) = 10⁶

Intensity = 10⁸ * Standard Intensity = 10⁶ * Standard

Comparing the intensity of the Magnitude 8 to Magnitude 6:

(10^(8)*Standard)/(10^(6)*Standard) = 10^(2)

A magnitude 8 earthquake is 100 times stronger than a magnitude 6 earthquake
