I'm assuming you mean
(3x)^2 - 1, not
(3x)^(2-1). To evaluate this when
x = 2, simply evaluate the expression when the number 2 takes the place of
x.

Thus, we can find:

(3 \cdot 2)^2 - 1

6^2 - 1

35

Our answer is 35.
