the area of a rectanglular television screen is 1837 in^2. the width of the screen is 22.4 inches longer than the height. therefore, the quadratic equation that can be used to represent the area of the television screan is h(h+22.4)=1837. if you multiply, you then have the equivalent equation, h^2+22.4h=1837. complete the square to find the dimensions of the screen.

the equation second grade is

h^2+22,4h = 1837

you must subtract the second coefficient and divide it by 2 ; 22,4 / 2 = 11,2, then elevate it to 2, ( 11,2 )^2 = 125,44

then

h^2+22,4h + 125,44 -125,44 = 1837

now √h^2 = h and √125,44 = 11,2

(h+11,2)^2 -125,44 = 1837 ( dimensions of the screen )
