Most marine organisms have internal salt concentration higher than

freshwater and take on water by osmosis in estuaries

• Osmoconformers, e.g., molluscs, worms, maintain osmotic balance by

allowing body fluids to change with salinity of water

• Osmoregulators, e.g., fish, crabs, keep salt concentration of body fluids

more or less constant via active transport.
