Why does the author portray the underground railroad as a real system of tracks, trains, stations, and conductors?

By combining the fantasy of the railroad with the reality of slavery, the reality stands out even more.
To give hope to African Americans everywhere that we are on a journey to freedom.
To help the reader to better visualize the underground railroad.
He didn't do enough research to know the underground railroad is actually a metaphor.
