We need to find the lengths of 2 adjacent sides.

Lets find length of the line joining (-5,5) and ( -1, 7) first:

Length = sqrt [ (7-5)^2 + (-1 - (-5))^2 ]

= sqrt (2^2 + 4^2) = sqrt 20

And length of the line joining (-1,7) and (4, -3):-

length = sqrt [ (-1-4)^2 + ( 7 - (-3))^2]

= sqrt (25 + 100) = sqrt 125

So our area = product of these 2 lengths = sqrt 20 * sqrt 125

= sqrt 20*125 = sqrt 2500

= 50
