We have been given that at a city water purification plant, water is mixed with a release agent in a ratio of 8:1.

Let x be amount of release agent that should be mixed with the 32 ounces of water. We can write an equation by our given information as:

(8)/(1) =(32)/(x)

Upon cross multiplication we will get,

8x=32

x=(32)/(8) =4

Therefore, we should mix 4 ounces of the release agent to 32 ounces of water.
