Babylon was built on both sides of the Euphrates river, It became an independent and important city-state. Its location lies in today´s Iraq, southwest of Iraq . There is a famous song which has the name of "Rivers of Babylon"; the lyrics goes..."by the rivers of Babylon,..., when we remember zion"... in reference to the captivity of a number of ancient Hebrews in Babylon.
