a 4-inch-wide by 6-inch-long picture is placed on a solid mat that forms a frame around it. The mat is 8 inches long. The mat and the picture are similar rectangles. What is the area of the mat?

The area of the mat would 48 inches
Since before the length was 6 and now it's 8, you added 2 inches, meaning you do it to the other side too.
4 + 2 = 6
6 Ă— 8 = 48
The width is 6 inches
The area is 48 inches
