A population of hyenas inhabits a tropical savanna. At the beginning of the year, there were 100 hyenas in the population. Throughout the year, 20 hyenas died, 35 hyenas were born, 5 hyenas migrated into the population, and no hyenas left the population. What was the size of the population at the end of the year?

Given data:

At the start of year:

  • Total no. of hyenas: 100
  • Hyenas died = 20
  • Left hyenas = 100 - 20 = 80
  • Hyenas who are born = 35
  • Now the population = 80 + 35 = 115
  • Hyenas migrated into the population = 5
  • So the increase in population due to migrated hyenas = 115 + 5 = 120

Hence the total no. of hyenas at the end of year is 120 hyenas. Actually increase in population due to new born and migration is 35 + 5 = 40.

Due to which population become 140. But 20 of them die, making population of hyenas 120.
