Answer:

A melon weighs 8 pounds and a cantaloupe weighs 4 pounds

So weight of the 2 melons and 1 cantaloupe = 2(8)+4 = 20 pounds

Explanation:

4m + 3c = 44 where m = melons and c = cantaloupes (weight of)

3m + 2c = 32

Multiply first equation by 2 and second by -3:-

8m + 6c = 88

-9m - 6c = -96

Adding:-

-m = -8

m = 8

and 3c = 44- 4(8) = 12 (from the first equation)

c = 4
