Expand

3y - 2y - 10 = 5y - 22

Simplify 3y - 2y - 10 to y - 10

y - 10 = 5y - 22

Subtract y from both sides

-10 = 5y - 22 - y

Simplify 5y - 22 - y to 4y - 22

-10 = 4y - 22

Add 22 to both sides

-10 + 22 = 4y

Simplify -10 + 22 to 12

12 = 4y

Divide both sides by 4

12/4 = y

Simplify 12/4 to 3

3 = y

Switch sides

Answer: y = 3
