The Catholic Church was aiming to conquer the holy land, known today as Palestine. At that time the Muslim religion prevented the growth of the Catholic church in some regions. The church decided that the conquest of the holy land, the sacred land of the Muslims, was a way to stop the growth of the Muslim religion.

The goal of Albigensian Crusade(1208-1229), was to eliminate the Cathars sect in southern France. Another Crusade, The Baltic(1211-1225), had the same objective but with the pagans in Transylvania.
