Answer:

God wanted to commune with man.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the beginning, God wanted to have fellowship with man. God could not force humans to have fellowship with him since it wouldn’t be true fellowship, so when he created man, he gave him free will and planted the tree of good and evil in the Garden of Eden, where the first man and woman resided. God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the tree. If they listened to God and didn’t eat the tree’s fruit, they could have fellowship with him. If they decided not to listen, Adam and Eve would leave God’s presence. They could choose to obey or disobey God.

God put the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden to give Adam and Eve a choice to obey Him or disobey Him. Adam and Eve were free to do anything they wanted, except eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
