This presidential election went to Congress to begin with because none of the candidates got the necessary amount of electoral college votes to win the presidency outright. Even though Andrew Jackson had the most popular votes and the most electoral college votes, he would lose to John Quincy Adams due to this shady political deal made by Clay and Adams.
