3y - 1 < 3


Isolate the y. Treat the less than or equal like an equal sign.

Do the opposite of PEMDAS. First, add 1 to both sides

3y - 1 (+1) < 3 (+1)

3y < 4

Next, divide 3 from both sides

3y/3 < 4/3

y < 4/3

y < 4/3 is your answer
