Atticus Finch is the father of Scout and Jem in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird.

Three main themes: prejudice, family life, courage

Conflict: Atticus' primary conflict comes with his decision to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, on the charge of raping Mayella Ewell, a white woman. Atticus knows that many of the townspeople will not approve of his decision, and that it may bring problems for himself and his family. The decision did effect his family and children, however, he knew that he had to do what was right.
