x < - 3 or x >
(5)/(3)

The first thing to do is clear the bars and split the inequality into 2 parts

3x + 2 < - 7 or 3x + 2 > 7 → ( this is the pattern for greater than)

3x + 2 < - 7

subtract 2 from both sides

3x < - 9 ⇒ x < - 3

or 3x + 2 > 7

subtract 2 from both sides

3x > 5 ⇒ x >
(5)/(3)

Absolute value can broken down to two parts
Ex. |x| = x and -x
In this case:
|3x+2| > 7 is 3x+2 > 7 and -(3x+2) > 7
From there just solve for x
x = 5/3 ; x = -3
