In a representative democracy, people are choosing the representatives. They basically get to choose what type of person they want to make decisions for their country.

In a representative democracy, voters choose from candidates for political office those whose values converge with their own. In this way, citizens vote for candidates who, once elected, will represent them in parliament. These politicians will work to ensure that the needs and values of their constituents are guaranteed in the institutional framework of the state or country.
