Scan for areas of the roadway that are under construction or where the shoulder is narrow because when the space where you have to maneuver is reduced, your risk increases.
Usually, when there is a construction going on, there are Flag persons that guide and signal vehicles to slow down or stop. The Flag person will direct the vehicles to carefully maneuver the shoulder of the road. The shoulder or hard shoulder is the strip of pavement off the road used as stopping lane for emergencies. This outer lane is usually narrow and can accommodate only one vehicle at a time. The smaller the space to maneuver, the bigger the chances for an accident.
