The difference between an immigrant and an emigrant is that immigrants move to another country while emigrants move around in that country they are originally in.

An immigrant is somebody who is entering the country. For example, if you are a native-born of the USA, an immigrant would be the family from France who just got off the plane from the airport.

An emigrant however, would be different. The emigrant from the previous case would be the French Family, which left France to go to America. An emigrant leaves the country essentially.

hope this helps
