4x+1=2x-5

First subtract 1 from each side.

4x+1-1=2x-5-5

That would be 4x=2x-10

Then divide by 2x on both sides

4x/2x=2x/2x-10

That would be 2x=-10

Then divide one more time by 2 on both sides

Like so, 2x/2=-10/2

Your answer is x=-5

4x+1=2x-5

you need to isolate the x on one side so

4x+1=2x-5

-4x -4x (you need to subtract 4x by both sides of the =)

so you get

1=-2x-5

so now you need to keep simplifying now you need to subtract the five from both sides

1=-2x-5

-5 -5

-4=2x

now divide the 2 on both sides

-4=2x

/2 /2

-2=x

answer x = -2
