A map of a town has no scale. You know that the distance between the post office and the park is 2 mi. On the map it is 2 in. Also, on the map you know the distance from the park to the school is 8 in. What is the actual distance in miles between the park and the school?

8 miles is the distance because you can see that the inches are the same as miles

Answer:

The actual distance is 8 miles

Explanation:

We can solve this using a rule of three, in which we know that 2 in on the map are equivalent to 2 actual miles, then how many miles are equivalent to 8 in on the map. That is:

2 miles ------------ 2 in

X ------------ 8 in

Where X is the actual distance in miles between the park and the school.

Therefore, Solving for X, we get:

X=(2 miles*8in)/(2in)=8 miles

So, he actual distance in miles between the park and the school is 8 miles.
