Answer:

1. She closed the book and looked at the clock -she had finished reading “The Elder Brothers”, at exactly 12 am.

2. Oxygen was discovered in 1772, by the Swedish chemist: Carl Scheele, but he withheld the information until 2 years later, when Joseph Priestly made the same discovery.

3. “Hey Elena!” asked Steven Baron Sr., as we unpacked. “Did you forget the grapes? You forgot the T shirts, too? Oh, brother!”

4. The lungfish; an unusual animal has both, lungs and gills; therefore, it can breathe either underwater or on land.

5. Holistic medicine, which includes treatments such as: acupuncture and aromatherapy, focuses on treating the whole person -body and mind- rather than just the affected part.

Step-by-step explanation:

As we can see, in sentence number one we are putting a dash to add extra information, and since it Is the end of the sentence, we do not include another to close it. As for number 2, we are using commas to make pauses as well as a colon to introduce related information, in this case, the Swedish chemist’s name. Option 3 needs quotation marks, as the characters are talking as well as question marks for questions and exclamation points when expressing surprise In the expression: “Oh brother”. Number 4 we are using a semicolon to give a break on the sentence, but as introducing a brief explanation, the pause needs to be a be stronger. And Number 5, we use dashes to introduce more information, and there were some words misspelled: hole means “hollow” and whole means “total”. Also effected and affected are different. There were other words misspelled as well in the other sentences: Sweedish, descovery, breath (noun) breathe (verb).
