Answer:

a) 2 b) 1 c) 7/6

Function a(x) = 2x + 3 has the greatest rate of change

Explanation:

a(x) = 2x + 3

2(-1) + 3 = 1 (-1,1)

2(2) + 3 = 7 (2,7)

(7-1)/(2-(-1)) = 6/3

=2

b(x) = x^2 - 1

(-1)^2 - 1 = 0 (-1, 0)

(2)^2 - 1 = 3 (2,3)

(3-0)/(2-(-1)) = 3/3

=1

c(x) = 2^x + 1

2^(-1) + 1 = 1.5 (-1, 1.5)

2^(2) + 1 = 5 (2,5)

(5-1.5)/(2-(-1)) = 3.5/3 or 7/6

=7/6
