What an interesting little passage to read. So, just to re-cap about everything, Shannon is the daughter, right? And, she was planning to go to a even that everyone was going to, and of course, as teens, we would want to join ourselves. And, her mom, heard her speaking perhaps on the phone, and she was yelling from downstairs, "Shannon, who told you you could come?" And from that, the ending was that her and Shannon ended up going to the event, and that was actually just because the mom enjoyed the discount price.
The following questions below would be the questions that we would be considering based from the passage above from what we had read.
1. What product or service is being advertised?
2. What advertising techniques are being used?
3. Who appears to be the target audience of this advertisement?
4. What is being promised in the ad?
5. What does the ad want listeners to believe and feel?
Therefore, starting with the first question.
1. What product or service is being advertised? : Based from the passage above, Shannon was wanting to go the the "Midnight Madness Sale at Lakeview Mall.".
2. What advertising techniques are being used? There was a discount going on in the mall, and, from what Shannon had heard, there was going to be some free giveaways. But, from the passage, it was noted this way "Up to 70 percent off, mom! Not to mention free giveaways for the first 100 shoppers!".
3. Who appears to be the target audience of this advertisement? : The mom was the 'target audience'. We see that as she was down the stairs low key yelling at Shannon, she was being verbally advertised through Shannon about this event. And from the passage, we see the following how this would be true "Did it ever occur to you that I might want to join you? I may be your mother, but I still want to look great—especially at a fraction of the cost!". So, we see that she also wanted to join herself.
4. What is being promised in the ad? : In the passage, it was clear that they promised the following: " Up to 70 percent off, mom! Not to mention free giveaways for the first 100 shoppers! All starting at midnight. ".That is what the ad was promising.
5. What does the ad want listeners to believe and feel? They want people to get some free giveaways, but, it would actually have to be the first 100, so, that means that they would want people to come as fast as possible, and that means more people would actually attend, and that means more profit for them, and more business. And, this is also from the passage above: " Not to mention free giveaways for the first 100 shoppers! ".
Hope this helps!
