Q1 - The equation to solve the problem would be:

x^(3) = (x * 2)^(2)

x^(3) = 2x^(2)

x^(3) = 4x^(2)

x^(3) - 4x^(2) = 0 → we apply the exponent rule

x^(2) (x - 4) = 0 → we use the zero factor principle

x - 4 = 0

x = 0 + 4

x = 4

The answer is 4, and you can prove it:

The cube of 4 is 64. The double of 8, and 8 squared is also 64.

Q2 - The way of solving the problem would be:

14 - 17 = anwer, becuase the temperature dropped which means the temperature went down.

14 - 17 = -3 degrees

Hope it helped,
