Mental dysfunction in an elderly person may seem like a normal part of aging, but it can result from disease or another cause. what should the er staff do first for a presenting elderly person with a mental dysfunction such as extreme confusion

Check vital signs, check for dehydration, check for stroke or heart attack, adress any of these that are not as they should be, and simultaneously have support staff try to contact any physician, family, or friend of the patient that could provide helpful information.
