David has a piece of wood measuring 12 1/8 feet that he wants to use for a project. He needs to cut the wood into pieces that measure 1 13/16 feet.

How many pieces of wood can he cut measuring exactly 1 13/16 feet?

So, it would be the wisest to work in decimals for this problem.

So we have to divide 12.125 by 1.8125 to see how many times the latter goes into the former.
(12.125)/(1.8125)\approx 6.68965517

So, since the problem asks for how many lengths can go in without remainder, our answer would simply be 6.
