The two angles are vertical angles so that means they must be equal to each other. Make them equal to each other in an equation.

(2 + 3x) = 62

Subtract 2 from both sides.

3x = 60

Divide both sides by 3.

x = 20

The angles are vertical angles. Vertical angles measure the same. That means:

2 + 3x = 62

Switch it around and it becomes:

62 - 2 = 3x

The sign changes. At first you were adding, and now you're subtracting. Subtract:

62 - 2 = 60 \\ 3x = 60

Divide both sides by 3 to leave the variable alone:

60 / 3 = 20 \\ 3x / 3 = x

That means x = 20°
