The pythogrean theorem is a^2+b^2=c^2

"a" and "b" are the legs, and "c" is the hypotenuse.

so 12^2+b^2=13^2

144+b^2=169, subract 144 from both sides.

b^2 = 25, take the square root from both sides.

Hence b=5

Hello!

to find b, let's subtract the squares of the hypotenuse and leg a to find b. We will then find the square root of our answer.

169-144=25

√25=5

Therefore, b=5

I hope this helps!
