Answer:

Q=(9,11)

Explanation:

Solving (4a)

P (x_1,y_1) = (1,1)

M (x,y) = (5,6)

Required

Determine
Q(x_2,y_2)

To do this, we make use of the mid-point formula:

M(x,y) = ((x_1+x_2)/(2),(y_1+y_2)/(2))

Substitute values for x, y, x1 and y1

(5,6) = ((1+x_2)/(2),(1+y_2)/(2))

Multiply through by 2

2 * (5,6) = ((1+x_2)/(2),(1+y_2)/(2)) * 2

(10,12) = (1+x_2,1+y_2)

By comparison:

10 = 1 + x_2

x_2 = 10 - 1

x_2 = 9

12 = 1 + y_2

y_2 = 12 - 1

y_2 = 11

Hence, the coordinates of Q is (9,11)
