Explanation:

If the pipe is 56 inches long and divided into 2 parts with a 3;1 ratio, then you would divide 56 by 4 (3;1->3+1) to get 14. 14 would be the smaller piece, then you'd multiply 14 by 3 to get 42 inches because theres 3 parts for the larger piece in the ratio of 3;1. :) the explanation is probably really weird but the answer should be correct anyways
