What were the Catholic Church’s goals?

-The Catholic Church wanted to keep its followers from converting to Protestantism.

-The Jesuits wanted to revive the Catholic faith. They established missions and seminaries throughout Europe.

-The Catholic Church attempted to counter heresy by suppressing writings.

Did the church succeed in these goals?

-The church succeeded, because the reforms in the Catholic Church prevented many members from leaving or encouraged many who had left to return

-The church was successful in overcoming the drift toward Protestantism in Poland and southern parts of the Holy Roman Empire.

-In 1559, Pope Paul IV published the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, which listed books viewed as heresy. Catholics were banned from printing, distributing, or reading these books. The ban remained in effect until 1966.
