6. Priya and Jax are 20 miles apart in a path when they start walking towards each other. Priya

runs at a constant speed of 6 miles an hour and Jada walks at a constant speed of 2 miles an
hour. How long does it take for them to meet? Explain your reasoning,

2 hours 30 minutes

Explanation:

Step one

Given data

The total distance to be covered= 20miles

Priya runs at a constant speed of 6 miles an hour

Hence Her speed = 6mph

Jada walks at a constant speed of 2 miles an hour

Hence Her speed = 2mph

let the time taken by them to cover the distance be t

Step two:

from speeed= distance/time

distance= speed*time

so

20=6*t+2*t

20= 6t+2t

20=8t

divide both sides by 8

t= 20/8

t=2.5 hours

That is, it wiil take them 2 hours 30 minutes to meet

The reason is because, the distances covered by them must sum up to 20 miles
