The answer to this question is that Both resistance movements were defeated in battle by European forces

the two countries were unable to overcome European imperialism. The Chinese had been weakened a strong deal by years of civil wars and isolation that they could not resist effectively British and japanese invasion of their territory, which begun from the opium war loss. On the other hand Vietnamese could not march the superior weapons of France.
