if x equals 1, then y equals -1.

When X = 1, y = -1.

To solve this, I find it easiest for me to make an imaginary, vertical line at x = 1 and see where my imaginary line and the line of the function intersect. In this case, the lines would intersect at (1,-1) which means that y = -1.
