Hey!

Okay, so the first thing we want to do to solve this problem is write a simple equation to find out how many pounds of ham she bought in total.

Created Equation {To Find Total Pounds} :

4.3 + 1.7=?

Now that we have written that not so complex equation, we can go ahead and solve.

Solution {Created Equation Solved} :

4.3+1.7=6

So, now we know that she bought 6 pounds of ham in total.

Next, we'll write a new equation that is going to solve how much Nadia spent per pound. For this equation, we'll use the variable
p to represent pounds.

Created Equation {To Find Cost Per Pound} :

6p = 41.94

I created the equation this way so that the left side will equal one pound when we simplify it, and the right side will equal the cost per pound when we simplify it.

To simplify the equation we'll divide both sides by 6. So, when doing the work, it should look something like this...

(6p)/(6) = (41.94)/(6)

Now we solve. Or better put, we simplify.

Solution {Created Equation Simplified} :

p=6.99

So, this means that Nadia spent $6.99 per pound of ham.

Hope this helps!

Make an equation. Have pounds = p.

4.3p + 1.7p = 41.94
Combine like terms.

6p = 41.94
Divide both sides by 6.

p = 6.99

The price of ham per pound is $6.99.
