slit the figure into 2 rectangles
Area of top rectangle = 6 x 4 = 24
Area of bottom rectangle = 4 x 3 = 12

Area of figure = Area of top rectangle + Area of bottom rectangle
= 34 + 12
= 36

Answer
36 cm^2
