In printmaking, a plate or block will be canceled so that no more prints can be made from it. Printmaking is an art form which involves the production of multiple images known as prints mainly on paper and also on fabric, plastic and parchment by using several techniques of multiplication under the direct supervision of or by the hand of the artist. In printmaking, the modern artist usually cancels a plate or block in a distinctive manner to ensure that any reprint from the plate is identifiable and so that no more prints can be made from it.
