How much time would it take for a population to double at a rate of 8.2% per year continuously?

You want to find t such that
2 = 1·e^(0.082t)
ln(2) = 0.082t . . . . . take the natural log
ln(2)/0.082 = t ≈ 8.453

It would take about 8.5 years for a population to double at 8.2% per year.
