The options associated with this question are:

A.) 2.85 mm

B.) 3.0 in

C.) 0.118 in

D.) 3.0 mm

Now we solve this by the method of elimination.

First, we have to note that the scale has only centimeters and inches. So there is no way that Shirley is going to be able to measure in millimeters (mm). So that rules out option A and option D

Next, when a scale has measurement in inches it would be numbered from 0,1,2.... and the space between 0 and 1 is again divided into 16 markings. There would be 16 markings per inch as shown in the attached figure. So, she is not going to be able to measure accurately to the precise 0.118 inch. So option C is also eliminated.

So the correct option is Option B) 3.0 in
